Deep Rock Galactic’s third season is fast approaching, and with it, the developers at Ghost Ship Games have begun to show off footage of new environments, new enemies, and new grenades to blow up said enemies. In the last two seasonal updates, players battled robots sent after them by a mysterious rival company. However, videos posted to Deep Rock Galactic’s official Twitter this week imply this season’s threat will be a far cry from the mechanical monstrosities fans may be used to. Keep reading to see what is to come.

The footage shows webs of dense, green matter dappled with glowing pustules, followed by a shot of a pack of leaping worms covered in similarly glowing cysts. The worms appear to be moving through a crystalline hallway similar to the kind found in the radioactive exclusion zone map. This could imply that these tumescent growths are likely to appear as a modifier to pre-existing maps, much like the “Rival Presence” modifier which populated the game’s many biomes with mechanical enemies like the Shredder Drone and Patrol Bot.
To help players fight back against whatever might live in these blighted zones, players can look forward to earning new grenades for each playable class. As of now, Ghost Ship has revealed three of the four new grenades.

The fast-moving scout will be getting the “Voltaic Stun Sweeper” which looks like a cross between a boomerang and a taser and can home in on enemies to incapacitate them.

Described by the devs as a “throwable workplace hazard,” the Driller’s “Springloaded Ripper” resembles an RC car made out of saw blades and razor wire. The rolling ball of blades is shown not only to carve straight paths through clusters of enemies but can also travel up sheer surfaces which can be used to turn narrow tunnels or walkways into a zone of lacerating mayhem.
Today we revealed the new Engineer grenade! Keep your beards clear! pic.twitter.com/p0e2MTyczQ— Deep Rock Galactic (@JoinDeepRock) September 23, 2022
Engineers will be getting the “Shredder Swarm” grenade. In keeping with the theme of stretching the definition of “grenade” to its breaking point, the Shredder Swarm deploys a cloud of wasp-like drones to menace nearby enemies.
Fans of the gunner class will need to wait just a little longer before Ghost Ship reveals what they’ll get to clip to their grenade belt. But the devs are known for their creativity when it comes to firepower, so chances are that players will have something to be excited about.
Players can expect season 3 to launch in Q4, 2022.
Deep Rock Galactic is currently available on PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series S, Xbox Cloud, Ps5, and Ps4.
