One of the most popular franchises of all games, Pokemon has been a staple in just about every gamer’s repertoire. Whether you’ve played Rangers, Showdown, Snap or Mystery Dungeons, Pokemon has produced many spinoffs from its main line and helped build generations of gamer memories. Due to its success, its inspired creativity of all kinds, such as the famously infamous RomHacks that take the Pokemon storyline and twist it on its head. Here are some fantastic games you must look into if you are a Pokemon fan looking for more content to enjoy.
Pokemon Uranium – The Ultimate Fakemon Game to Play
Created by JV and InvoluntaryTwitch in RPGMaker XP, Pokemon Uranium is the OG of all Romhacks, especially for Pokemon. But delving into this game, you may not find the Pokemon of your childhood. Along with the story, the game completely reinvents the Pokedex with over 150 new Pokemon added in for you to discover or raise. Fanmade Pokemon are often dubbed as Fakemon to differentiate between what is canon and what has been designed by content creators. Uranium is one of the best of these versions, taking place in Tandor as you once more take on the mantle to challenge the gym leaders and unravel the mystery behind your mother’s disappearance and your absentee father’s secrets. Along with the new Fakemon, you’ll encounter a new Type called Nucluer during your journey, encounter Side Quests along the main storyline and an extended map that allows you to explore East Tandor eventually.
Pokemon Deserted – Washed Up, But Not Alone
One of the games to turn the plot on its head, Pokemon Deserted sits you on an island where you have obviously been deserted. Not to fear, you have your partner Pokemon to keep you safe and help you figure out how to craft and explore the map so that you can survive another day to find a way off of this island. Designed by RPGMaker XP once again, it was created by RiqueRique in collaboration and partnership with RuffledRowlit and Poryleeks. Instead of tackling gym challenges, you’ll be uncovering mysteries on the island until you can figure a way off of it.
Pokemon Clockwork
Not often in the limelight save for a few select movies, Pokemon Clockwork’s Demo highlights Celebi as the primary legendary to focus on. With a story centered around the mysterious Pokemon, trainers traverse both the past and present in order to adventure around the map and uncover the mysteries behind this Pokemon that had visited them in a dream. Instead of introducing new Pokemon, this game expands upon the Pokédex through several generations and mixes up the Types of a few select Pokemon to better tailor it for the game. Once more, the storyline is about taking on the gym and challenging the Elite Four, this game is equipped with additional quests and side events you can complete that’ll make for more content and enjoyable gameplay. This game’s official version was released in 2018 by PoiPoi, made on Pokemon Essentials and helped completed by the creators of Pokemon Reborn and Pokemon Rejuvenation.
Pokemon Black – The Creepypasta of Fanmade Pokemon Games
For those who like a more horrific spin, Pokemon Black offers a new route for players to take by offering a new Pokemon to choose from at the start of your adventure, a strange whisky sprite only seen in Lavender Town called Ghost. It uses a move called Curse that defeats opposing Pokemon and deletes them permanently from the team of trainers you battling against. The game only becomes darker when after receiving your prize money, the battle options return and Ghost is allowed to use Curse once again. If the player chooses to, the trainer that they were battling against will disappear from where they once were and if the player returns to the spot after traveling away, there will be a gravestone where the trainer used to be. Eerie and unnerving, it follows the Creepypasta Pokemon Black and the underlying themes of Death being inevitable once Ghost eventually turns to try and curse the trainer.
Pokemon FireRed Rocket Edition
One of the biggest twists yet is playing the role that many had considered after playing HeartGold and SoulSilver, the role of Team Rocket. In this FireRed Romhack, instead of playing as the hero Red adventuring the world of Kanto, our role in the game is to ascend the ranks of Team Rocket. By stealing Pokemon from Trainers and challenging the Gym Leaders whose stories don’t altogether match up with what we know from the original story. Try this alternate version of Pokemon FireRed by living out your dream as the villain. Created by a large community of creators for art beta-testing and individual freelance work, this game started with colonelsalt and ended with the production you see today.
