New Standalone Multiplayer Last of Us Title Will Take Place in California

Developer Naughty Dog released new concept art today with the announcement that the next game in the Last of Us franchise is a standalone multiplayer.

The image shows two completely new characters overlooking a grungy, apocalyptical environment. The landscape features palm trees and a tall city skyline. The Golden Gate ridge sits prominently in the foreground, leading to beliefs the game takes place in sunny San Francisco.

The release will be narrative-focused with a new set of characters, set in an environment not previously explored by players.

“It’s got a story. The way we’re telling the story is very unique to this game,” Naughty Dog co-president Neil Druckmann said.

The developer described the title to have a massive scope and immense world. The game is just as expansive as the previous titles.

The exact release date is currently unknown, but Naughty Dog said more information will come sometime next year.

The Last of Us series is an action-adventure survival zombie game franchise by developers Naughty Dog. The games are highly popular, winning accolades such as Game of the Year and selling over 30 million copies worldwide. The titles are exclusively available on PlayStation.
