It’s been three years since the last set of starter Pokémon was introduced, Grookey, Scorbunny and Sobble. A new set was announced today along with the newest title Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet coming to Nintendo Switch later this year. The three starters are adorable, and we can’t wait to catch them in the newest edition. So what do we know about them?
Sprigatito
Sprigatito is a petite grass cat Pokémon, coming in at a small 9 pounds. The official Pokémon website describes it as capricious, attention-seeking starter. Similar in style to Rockruff, the grass-type Pokémon is fluffy with big, round eyes. It’s ability is Overgrow, a move that powers up Grass-type moves when the Pokémon’s HP is low.
Fuecoco
This small chomper is the series newest fire-type Pokémon. With a wide mouth and stout body, Fuecoco is a cute choice for your starter. Coming in at a hefty 21 pounds, the little guy is awfully rotund. Its style is reminiscent of a baby crocodile and is described as laid-back. Its ability is Blaze, a move that powers up fire-type moves when the Pokémon’s HP is low.
Quaxly
A determined duck with an apt name, Quaxly is the newest water-type. Its described as earnest and tidy. Quaxly comes with the ability Torrent which powers up Water-type moves when the Pokémon’s HP is low.
Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet will be an open exploration world with regions set in the skies, in the seas, in the forests and on town streets.
