Overwatch 2’s roster of support characters features eight heroes with their own unique abilities and traits to usher teams to victory. As support characters are an absolute necessity to winning, it is important to choose just the right character when entering a match. Here are the best support characters in Overwatch 2, ranked.
1. Kiriko
Overwatch 2’s newest support hero, Kiriko, has solidified her role as the number one support character in the game. She is equipped with everything necessary to heal allies and survive incoming attacks — every support main’s dream. Her Healing Ofuda tracks targeted allies and heals them in bursts through her healing talismans. Her survivability rate is greatly increased with her Swift Step ability, which allows her to teleport to nearby allies. However, her best ability, Protection Suzu, which grants allies a moment of immortality and cleanses negative effects, is what makes Kiriko the best support in Overwatch 2, as she is able to quickly remedy allies in need.
2. Ana
A long-range engagement hero, Ana’s Biotic Rifle shoots projectiles that heal allies and damage enemies. This, paired with her Biotic Grenade, allows for greater amounts of healing, making her one of the best support characters in Overwatch 2. Her Sleep Dart ability can shut down enemy ultimate, and her Biotic Grenade also prevents enemies from getting heals. She also is equipped with one of the best ultimate abilities, Nano Boost, which increases allies’ damage, and reduced their damage taken. Though Ana is a bit immobile, her Biotic Grenade grants self-healing, which keeps her alive during combat.
3. Baptiste
An exceptional support hero, Baptiste’s Regenerative Burst and Immortality Field make him one of the best support heroes in Overwatch 2. With high survivability and a good balance of healing and damage with his Biotic Launcher, Baptiste is a healing force to be reckoned with. His ultimate, Amplification Matrix, doubles the damage and healing effects of ally projectiles, which can be useful to push attacks or defend objectives. His best ability, Immortality Field, prevents teammates from dying and can be utilized to survive heavy enemy ultimate attacks.
4. Lucio
A fan favorite, Lucio’s agility enhances his survivability rate, which makes him one of the best support characters in the game. His Crossfade ability, which switches between Healing Boost and Speed Boost, outputs infinite healing or speed buffs, which can be enhanced with his Amp It Up ability. His ultimate ability, Sound Barrier, creates temporary extra health for allies, which is extremely useful in combat and for surviving enemy ultimates. These healing abilities, combined with his enhanced agility, which can be useful for back-capping zones or payload progression, make Lucio a top choice for a support hero.
5. Mercy
Everyone’s favorite healer, Mercy’s Caduceus Staff allows her to provide an infinite stream of healing to her allies. The staff also allows her to buff her allies’ damage output. This, paired with her ability to resurrect teammates, makes Mercy one of the best support characters in the game. Her ultimate, Valkyrie, grants her enhanced abilities and she gains the ability to fly, which can be useful in pushing an attack. Her survivability rate is also increased by her Guardian Angel ability to fly toward allies.
6. Moira
Moira is a bit of a mid-tier support hero in Overwatch 2. Her primary fire, Biotic Grasp, allows her to alternate between healing allies and damaging enemies. However, her biotic healing requires biotic energy, which drains as you heal allies and can only be refiled by doing damage. This mechanic may be challenging to overcome if not utilized correctly and makes Moira a lackluster healer in the game. Despite this, her survivability rate is high thanks to her Fade ability, which allows her to turn invisible and become invulnerable for a short time.
7. Zenyatta
Zenyatta’s base healing ability, Orb of Harmony, launches a projectile at allies to heal them over time. His primary fire, Orb of Destruction, deals 48 damage as a single projectile, but when fully charged can deal a whopping 240 damage. Though this huge damage burst can be useful in combat, and his Orb of Discord ability can increase enemy damage taken, Zen’s healing simply isn’t enough to make him a top-tier support hero. Despite this, his ultimate, Transcendence, can prove useful to aid allies in surviving enemy attacks or ultimate spams.
8. Brigitte
Though Brigitte is the only support hero with any type of shield, her kit is simply not enough to suffice as a decent healer. Her Repair Pack does minimal heals to allies, which is not sufficient when paired with other support characters. One redeemable quality about her is her ultimate Rally, which provides allies with additional health. This ability can be utilized to push attacks but doesn’t work as well defensively.
