Tank heroes in Overwatch 2 are necessary when it comes to winning a match. Whether it be
leading the charge into attacking an objective or protecting allies, there is no denying the huge impact tanks have on gameplay. With so many different options to choose from, here are the tank heroes in Overwatch 2, ranked.
11. Winston
Once one of the faces of the franchise in the early days of Overwatch, Winston has become a
subpar hero in the game. Though his Barrier Projector aids from heavy attacks such as Reapers Death Blossom or DVA’s Self Destruct, his Tesla Cannon does mediocre damage, and his Primal Rage ability rarely aids when tank attacks are needed. However, his positive demeanor and adorable love for peanut butter are redeeming qualities.
10. Zarya
Zarya has one of the most unique kits in Overwatch 2. Her best ability lies in her Energy
gathering mechanics. When enough Energy is gathered, her primary fire, Particle Cannon, does more damage. Though this mechanic can be useful for doing huge DPS to enemy players, her gameplay can be extremely complicated and difficult to master.
9. Wrecking Ball
Probably one of the cutest characters of Overwatch 2, Wrecking Ball is one of the more fun tanks to play. His Roll and Grappling Claw abilities allow him to tactically maneuver around during matches, which can make for some creative plays. Although cute, Wrecking Ball isn’t much of a stand-out tank, with limited shields and only a temporary health buff, he is fairly easy to take down if you can catch him off guard.
8. Doomfist
If, on the rare occasion, your team is blessed with a decent Doomfist player, then you’re in for
some great offensive and defensive plays. When timed correctly, his Rocket Punch, Seismic
Slam and Hand Cannon can easily take down enemy players. Doomfist is great for singling out enemy team support characters to weaken the team, especially with his ultimate, Meteor Strike. However, Doomfist is another hero that is complicated to master, which places him lower in the ranks.
7. D.Va
The professional gamer turned mech pilot, D.Va takes charge in-game as one of the more
powerful tank heroes. Armed with her Fusion Cannons and Micro Missiles, D.Va does
considerable damage which is great for pushing attacks. Although her self-destruct ultimate is a superpower when it comes to tank heroes, her Defense Matrix does not absorb enough damage when it comes to heavy attacks, leaving her and her team vulnerable.
6. Roadhog
Every support main’s worst nightmare, Roadhog is truly terrifying, which is great for tank mains of course. Roadhog’s kit is fairly simple, and his mechanics are easy to master with practice. Wreak havoc on enemy teams by hooking and dragging enemies toward you with his Chain Hook ability. His primary weapon, Scrap Gun, does significant damage and can even one-shot certain heroes in the infamous one-shot, hook, kill combination. There really is no stopping a good Roadhog player, especially since his Take a Breather ability heals him and reduces incoming damage for a short period of time. Although powerful, Roadhog’s lack of a shield makes him vulnerable to heavy attacks since his hitbox is so large.
5. Junker Queen
One of the characters introduced with the initial release of Overwatch 2, Junker Queen’s
dynamic variety of abilities makes her one of the better tanks in the game. Junker Queen
dominates the playing field with her Jagged Blade and Carnage abilities, dealing significant
damage and healing from damage given over time with her Adrenaline Rush passive. Although her primary fire from her Scattergun is a bit underwhelming, her ultimate ability Rampage is great for pushing back enemy teams and doing damage while they are prevented from healing.
4. Sigma
Sigma is a great choice for tank heroes that mitigate damage. His Experimental Barrier absorbs up to 700 damage, which is a bit low, but the recharge rate for this ability makes up for it. Paired with his Kinetic Grasp ability that allows him to absorb damage and convert them into shields, Sigma is optimal for defensive plays. Sigma’s greatest downfall is his primary fire, which has limited range and damage output, and is hard to use.
3. Reinhardt
Reinhardt continues to reign as one of the best tanks in Overwatch 2. His Barrier Field provides a large area of cover for his team and mitigates up to 1200 damage. Though Reinhardt is limited by only having a melee-based primary fire, his Charge and Fire Strike allow for long-range attacks. His ultimate ability, Earthshatter, is truly a game-changer, as it knocks down and damages all enemies in front of him, which can be used offensively or defensively to change the pace of the match.
2. Ramattra
Introduced in Season 2 of Overwatch 2, Ramattra is one of the first heroes with the ability to
switch between forms, Omnic and Nemesis. A force of violence, Ramattra is equipped with
several abilities that protect allies and deal large amounts of damage to enemies. While in his
Omnic form he is able to place a temporary shield, while in his Nemesis form, he is able to deal great amounts of damage with his Pummel ability. Ramattra’s dynamic forms make him a great choice for offensive and defensive plays.
1. Orisa
A veteran from the original Overwatch, Orisa stands tall as the best tank in Overwatch 2. Her
complete rework from the original game has created an unstoppable force. Though she is no
longer equipped with a projectable shield, her Fortify ability allows her to tank damage. Perhaps her greatest change is her ultimate ability, Terra Surge, which pulls nearby enemies in and does huge amounts of damage, which makes for great offensive or defensive plays.
