Green the Planet 2: A Mental Escape to Green Paradise (In Space)

Have you ever wondered what it would be like if the Earth was completely “green?” Free your mind from the troubles of our current society’s environmental problems in Kikaku Damashii’s Green the Planet 2. A sequel to its predecessor, Green the Planet, this adorable free mobile game entrusts players with the task of transforming barren planets into green utopias.

Summary

The player arrives on a rocky planet, accompanied by three adorable characters that appear to be aliens. Your task is to “greenify” the planet, and turn it into an eco-friendly ecosystem. The main mechanic of this game is simple: purchase turret weapons to destroy comets that fly by for supplies. The supplies you gather can be used to purchase better artillery or to speed up the process of “greenification.” Either way, the planet will slowly turn green on its own with the more supplies you gather.

Over time, the player can upgrade their weapons for easier comet destruction, which is extremely satisfying. Once the planet is completely green, a collectible flower blooms and you are off to share your green thumb with another planet in the game. Though there are only 20 planets to green and collect flowers from, the game is infinite and you can keep playing after collecting all 20.

Beautiful Artwork and Design

The artwork of Green the Planet 2 is truly captivating. It follows the style of retro 8-bit arcade games, with vibrant colors and adorable character designs. The details of the planet as it transforms from a rocky surface into a green field of plants and flowers are truly mesmerizing. The fiery comets that fly by are relaxing to watch, as the game emulates a real-life meteor shower. It’s a shame you have to blow them up, but you are rewarded with a satisfying shower of glittering supplies that rain down onto the planet.

Another great aspect of this game’s artwork is its simplicity. There isn’t much to process here, just your soon-to-be green planet, and the night sky filled with stars and comets for the player to look at. Less is sometimes more, and Green the Planet 2 creates a perfect escape from reality with its calming art design and serene color schemes.

Calming Music Theme

One of my favorite parts of any game is the music, and Green the Planet 2 does not disappoint (for my fellow music lovers). Though this game does not offer an entire soundtrack, the ethereal song that plays in the background is all it needs. A soft instrumental, the music transports the player into a calming headspace with tunes that sound like a glittering meteor shower on a warm summer evening.

Simple Mechanics and Cool Tidbits

As mentioned before, there isn’t much to think about while playing this game. As you collect more supplies from comets, you are able to purchase new weapons and upgrade them. The upgrading mechanic of the game is as easy as it gets, you just purchase upgrades with the stardust you collect from comets.

Take a break from reality in the calming universe of Green the Planet 2, a repetitive yet addicting indie mobile game.

The materials you collect aren’t always just for weapon upgrades or energy for “greenification.” Later in the game, a library of materials is unlocked. Each material you collect has an information blurb you can read about the materials gathered. Though this doesn’t affect anything in the game, it is a cool feature. Some materials you gather can be analyzed in the menu hub if you watch an advertisement, which then grants a meteor shower or comet stream.

Lasting Impression

While Green the Planet 2 is not a new game, its simplicity offers longevity. The game has always been one of my go-to’s for a mental break. The beautiful artwork and design create a peaceful universe for players to escape to and enjoy. The celestial music theme offers a sense of calm while you blast comets out of the sky, which is sort of poetic. In the world of gaming where more and more titles released are becoming overly complex, Green the Planet 2 stands out as a tranquil gem. This game is free to play and available in the Google Play Store and the App Store.
