The Indie Game 500: Steam Next Fest Bringing Epic New Demos

Steam Next Fest, the indie game festival of the season, has kicked off for February 2022.

Between now and February 28, there are hundreds of new indie title demos to try out. Players can download and play as many as they please, but after the festival ends they will no longer be available until the games officially release. While there are far more games than even the most dedicated PC gamer could check out, this is a great chance to check out the coolest indie games coming soon.

One of these is Core Keeper. The newest of the survival game tradition, one player refers to it as a cross between Terraria and Diablo. Instead of crafting and mining above ground, Core Keeper takes place entirely in subterranean caves with a host of bosses to fight. The cartoony, top-down aesthetic makes it cozy as well.

Another promising game, Spacewreck, takes RPG and puzzle elements and sets them in a derelict space station. With the ability to choose a character and find alternate paths around obstacles or combat, there will be a lot of possibilities to check out in the full release.

In addition to the new demos, Steam is offering some of its most popular games – like FIFA 22 and Golf with Your Friends free throughout the week.

If you’re not in the mood to try games yourself, Steam is hosting nearly constant livestreams as well. From unreleased game trailers to playthroughs and chats with developers, there is something exciting for everyone to watch.
