One of those great discoveries is Haldor, the game’s trader NPC. Haldor sells a variety of helpful goods such as a fishing rod, an inventory-increasing belt and a helmet that shines in the dark of night. However, finding him is no easy feat. How to find the trader
The trader can spawn anywhere on the map as long as its in a black forest. Black forests all spawn at least 1500 meters away from the player’s starting location, so they’ll have to venture out at least a bit to discover him.
When close enough, the trader symbol, a money bag icon, will spawn on your map. In order for this to happen, the player must be at least 320 to 453 meters away. This is roughly twice the size of the default mini-map range. Once you find Haldor, he will reside there permanently.
A good method of finding the trader is to build a boat and start sailing around the map. It is recommended that you build a longship or a karve to do this method as a raft is too slow. While Haldor usually spawns somewhat close to the starting point, he can spawn as far as the edge of the map if unlucky.
An alternative way to find the trader
Alternatively, the player can use the Valheim Merchant Finder to locate the trader. This website allows the player to input the world’s file, and it will generate a spoiler-free approximate distance and direction to go to to find Haldor. It reveals nothing else about the player’s map, so this tool is handy for players who don’t wish to take the fun out of exploring Valheim’s lands.
What to do when you find the trader
When you find the Trader, it is recommended to place a portal down to easily access him again in the future. You can trade with Haldor by interacting with him. The player can sell valuables for coins and trade them for various offerings that will improve gameplay.
What to buy from the trader
It is recommended that you first buy the megingjord, as it increases the inventory weight limit by 150. Additionally, the player should grab ymir flesh, as it is needed for high tier equipment, and a fishing rod, as it makes gathering food an easy task.
