This time of year is full of many joys. Spending time with loved ones is one of the most common ways we spend the holidays. Video games seemingly are helping.
According to a global survey conducted by YouGov and Xbox, families are using video games to better connect during the holidays. Among respondents who said they plan to play video games during the holidays, 38% ranked the pastime as one of their top five family activities.
“I grew up playing video games with my family, so I was excited to partner with Xbox this holiday season,” said actor Jimmy O Yang. “I love keeping up with my friends and family across the world by playing video games, especially while I’m on tour and during the busy holidays. Plus, it keeps me humble to know that my nephew can probably crush me at Fortnite!”
The survey also suggests that family-friendly games like Minecraft account for more than half of the games played during the holidays in 2021. That is an increase from the last 2 years.
This suggests we are entering a new era for the holiday season. As technology continues to get better, new ways of holiday bonding continue to emerge. 71% of the survey respondents agree that the variety of video games available means that everyone in the family, from the kids to the grandparents, are able to participate.
